Postdoctoral Associate
Karla received her doctorate in biomedical engineering from Oregon Health & Science University, with a focus in cancer nanomedicine. In her dissertation she optimized a peptide-drug conjugate system which hitchhiked on endogenous plasma biomolecules for enhanced antitumor delivery and efficacy. In the Fine lab, Karla is investigating the hiatus period between initial glioblastoma treatment and eventual recurrence (~90% of patients). She examines how the current standard-of-care, particularly radiotherapy, might contribute to recurrence, and what interventions might disrupt this progression.
Karla is a proud Chicago native, but also loves NYC. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, art, trying out new restaurants and horseback riding.
